Where The Fuck Is Haim?

Updated: May 13

This year's Oscars? A big snooze fest for me. I get where the Academy wanted to go with hiring James Franco & Anne Hathaway as hosts, but it didn't really work for me. Wanting to update the whole show, make it fresh, more hip, and in tune with the times, I get it, but this experiment just shows that great actors do not necessarily have to be great hosts (hint: Hugh Jackman). Since I was bored, I noticed all the silly stuff that made me endure the whole event.

What about those guns?

Female buffness. What's going on in Hollywood, guys are more and more feminine looking, but women gave us serious guns? Those arms were off the wall. I love it!

Aishwarya Rai.

This woman. I have no notes.

Whoa, an upset?

What lifted the atmosphere an inch was two upsets: David Fincher losing Best Director, and The Social Network losing Best Movie. I had my eyes opened for The Social Network heavily throughout the whole awards season; it's a movie about something that will mark our generation, but in the end, I started to change my mind a bit. I finished watching King’s Speech an hour before the Oscars (unfair, I know, it stayed fresh), and I loved it so much. In the end, I was happy it won! It's not fancy, it's not grandiose, but it has a hell of a heart. Cried at the end, too.

Too cool for words?

Trent Reznor --- an Academy Award Winner! It made my night. Can you imagine saying that sentence in the 90s and not laughing hard? Way too cool for words.

Cutest?

Colin Firth's first sentence upon receiving an Oscar, "I have a feeling my career just peaked". There's just something so refreshing about the Brits and their heartfelt, unforced humor, and the self-deprecating way they see themselves. As opposed to their American colleagues. Do you think that's why they're better actors?

Wtf moment?

Excluding Corey Haim from the RIP tribute, for what reason exactly? So unbelievably rude. Include all deceased artists, or don't do any. Haim was an idol of his generation, and it's just thoughtless. But hey, at least the Internet & Twitter burned from anger over it, so the whole hype of not including him created an even bigger tribute online! You're still assholes, though.

All in all, glad it's over. Glad that Bale, Firth & Portman, being the finest actors of this generation, have an Academy Award in their hands, and mostly glad I will finally get some sleep now.

Thank you and good night.
