The Summer of Scam

‘Inventing Anna’ didn’t fascinate me as much as the real story.

Nor it made me hate Anna.

In order to make the characters interesting, many became caricatures of themselves.

Jessica/Vivian, the reporter, and her face gimmicks were an extra character who didn’t get the paycheck.

Why did they age Anna Chlumsky way before her time?

Neff is as insufferable on Netflix as in real life.

Rachel is up there with her, sharing the Olympic podium.

The easy materialism of Rachel.

It has been the subject of many articles and even more speculation.

The woman who got all her money returned.

The woman who enjoyed all expenses paid for years prior to the trip.

The woman who made close to $300,000 in book deals, articles, and TV rights

Simultaneously contradicting herself by not wanting to be involved with “the most stressful times of her life”, only to keep talking and writing about every new move Anna makes.

I’m sorry if this upsets you.

I can’t find sympathy for her.

Neff is no better.

Only a tad smarter to sense the notoriety of Anna in making.

Calculated early on she can benefit from the proximity.

The way Neff is trying to get a filmmaker career out of this, but keeps the ride-or-die persona/friend is an admirable hustle.

Hustle, hustle hustle.

How is theirs any different that Anna’s?

At least she treated her friends.

They all benefited from her, prior shit hitting the fan.

They didn’t spend time in jail.

But all got careers out of it.

Neff/Anna’s dinner with Martin Shkreli, tweeting Shkreli played them leaked tracks from ‘Tha Carter V’, the delayed Lil Wayne album he’d acquired - is pure poetry.

Discreet persona in public with Anna’s best interest in heart, until a tweet can get you notoriety.

A study in backstabbing and self-perseverance.

Anna asked Neff to delete that tweet.

Neff refused.

Said to a magazine, when asked - “I wanted everybody to know that I heard this album that the world is waiting on! But Anna was pretty mad. She didn’t come down to my desk for maybe three days.”

I can’t be mad at Anna.

I tried hard to judge her, after all, she is a convicted criminal, but I can’t.

It’s just not coming out of me.

The nuance of Scam.

After all, it was summer.
