#Unbecome

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.”

I read this quote somewhere between Christmas & New Year’s; a time of death of all our hopes and dreams. That well-known limbo of time and space where people realize their resolutions are probably going to last as long as their holiday hangover.

New Year resolutions were always particularly inane to me, as well as the Monday ones, and the next month ones. You will do that and that, and you will become that and that......what?

Become what?

How about you don’t become anything. How about you un-become.

Unbecoming? Now that’s the resolution.

This past year was exceptionally hard for me. It was a time of many changes where I thought I should do more, know more, meet more; I should be everywhere, do everything, be amongst everyone I could, collect everything. Add to my life. And life showed me in an almost scary fashion - life is not about adding, but SUBTRACTING.

Subtracting unnecessary people, unnecessary situations, unnecessary feelings, and most of all, unnecessary doing.

We’re all thrown into this world, and then the world throws stuff at us; instead of constantly trying to find ways to deal with it all, we need to unbecome.

Ubecome all that noise and annoyance that prevents us from being US.

Strip away. Remove. Hop on an invisible road and leave everything that holds you down, leave people that hold you down, leave all the expectations, and assumptions; be free.

Hop on a journey of unbecoming everything that holds you down from being yourself, so you can finally be yourself. And when you’re on that road, maybe hop on a real, actual road too, get away so you can learn how to be here.

Here, where you need to be!
